Join the Supertooth Health Project so together we can do better

What we eat is associated with obesity and cavities in teeth.
Plaque bacteria grows at gum margins, between teeth and insde grooves on chewing surfaces and changes sugar and starch to acid, which demineralises tooth eventually causing cavities. Even fluoride toughened teeth can develop cavities if under continual acid attack.

Supertooth science based school and home project shows how food dye stains plaque and how to remove plaque from gum marins and between teeth.

This is easy to do in a class situation and parents can help even small children learn and have fun developing better tooth care skills.

Put a drop of food dye in a tea spoon which the child put in the mouth and wipes it on the front tooth surfaces with tongue and lip control to stain any food or plaque that is there. It is easy to see the plaque and brush it off but dental floss is necessary to clean between teeth.

Almost all cavities occur between teeth and inside grooves on chewing surfaces where the brush cannot reach to remove plaque or trapped food or saliva does not have access to neutralise acid and repair demineralised tooth. Few holes occur at gum margins accessible to the brush and saliva.

A school canteen or school lunch project is easy to organise.

Ask your dentist about Chewing Barium Sulphate tablets before dental x-rays of back teeth to highlight where food is trapped each time we eat.

Chew celery after meals or snacks to remove trapped food and help saliva neutralise acid and repair demineralised tooth.
Chew cheese before eating to seals grooves and prevent food being trapped while eating. Good idea for school lunches.

In fact its the only way to clean inside grooves where 80% of cavities occur and the brush cannot reach. Perhaps something better and more convenient will be available in the future.
