Get into the celery habit

Chewing celery is a better preventive strategy than brushing with fluoride toothpaste and flossing, which should only be done before breakfast to start the day plaque free at gum margins and between teeth. Also before bed without washing the fluoride off teeth to allow time for the fluoride to work.

Get the habit of chewing celery before and after eating. Brush and floss after getting out of bed and before going to bed.

Chew celery and cheese before eating.

Chewing celery with a small piece of cheese before eating forces the cheese inside pits and fissures and between teeth so that it is hard to remove while eating meals or snacks. This prevents plaque bacteria changing sugar to acid while eating.

Place small pieces of cheese on the table next to the celery sticks at every meal for convenient tooth care.

Celery and your teeth

Chewing celery is better tooth care than a toothbrush, particularly inside grooves on chewing surface of back teeth where over 80% of cavities occur and the toothbrush, toothpaste, mouthwash and chewing gum cannot reach.

In fact all cavities occur where the brush cannot reach between teeth and inside grooves.

Chewing celery after eating removes food from gum margins, between teeth and inside grooves and helps saliva neutralise acid and repair tooth

New research suggests brushing and flossing is best before breakfast so there is not enough plaque at gum margins and between teeth to change decay causing foods like sugar to significant acid attack for 8 or 9 hours. Plaque is always inside grooves or pits and fissures where 80% of cavities occur. Sugar or starch in food is trapped there each time we eat, causing acid attack.

That is why chewing celery before and after eating can prevent cavities particularly where the bush cannot reach.

Chewing celery with cheese before eating, reduces plaque and forces cheese inside pits and fissures seals grooves to form a barrier  between plaque bacteria and decay causing foods like sugar confection, to prevent acid attack for a time while eating meals or snacks.

Chewing fibre like celery after eating removes food and  forces saliva around teeth and inside pits and fissures to neutralise acid and repair demineralised tooth.

Tips for Heathly Teeth

Brush with fluoride toothpaste as soon as you get out of bed, spit but do not rinse so the fluoride works longer.

Brush teeth with fluoride toothpaste before going to bed, spit but do not rinse so the fluoride works longer.

Chewing fibre at this time, forces fluoride inside pits and fissures where it does not reach while brushing or swishing.

Dental foam is being developed to do all this and also floss between teeth. For more info click here.
